World Calzone Championship
The World Calzone Championship will take place at the competition area in the Exhibit Hall. It’ll feature contestants preparing their signature calzones and presenting them to the judges.
Classic calzones are usually made with pizza dough consisting of flour, yeast, olive oil, water, and salt. Folded in a half-moon shape, traditional calzones are made with marinara sauce spread at the bottom of the dough. However, there are also breakfast calzones that are filled with various omelet-oriented toppings, along with eggs and cheeses. But there is no end to the new types of calzone interpretations. In addition to pepperoni, ham, cheese, and sausage, chefs are adding spinach, eggplant, barbecue chicken, blue cheese, and other ingredients to create incredible gourmet calzones.
All competitors will be responsible for bringing their own dough and ingredients to make their signature calzones. The audience will be able to observe preparation techniques and hear the contestants explain how they assemble their calzone. Judging will be based on the overall menu fit, use of quality ingredients, overall taste, preparation, and presentation.
The competition is limited to the first 25 registrations.
